I have never
created a graphic novel, I can’t remember the last time I read a graphic novel,
and to be honest, I would not have been able to predict that graphic novels
would have been incorporated into my college curriculum. This was definitely a
new experience that I was ready to take on!
I
had trouble thinking of a possible subject around which to center my project.
There wasn’t really a defining moment of my writing career. I started to enjoy
writing over a two year span and I didn’t really want to make a comic about
that. Then I remembered that one of the most defining essays of my high school
career was probably the most important essay of my high school career.
The
college essay is something every senior struggles with and even though I wasn’t
nearly as stressed as many of my friends were, I definitely was just as
consumed with perfecting it. My parents wanted me to work with a College
Counselor who my sister worked with her senior year. I didn’t like working with
him predominantly because he disagreed with all of my ideas and tried to make
the essay his own. I originally proposed an idea, which he vetoed, and then
after finishing the essay he told me to write about my original idea. I knew my
idea was the right decision all along and therefore I was really pleased with
my final essay.
I
enjoyed this assignment because this is certainly a new way of writing that I
have obviously never tried before. I also feel like this could be good practice
for future scenarios; this type of assignment prohibited me from going on rants
and solely sticking to important information. This isn’t an assignment that I
would jump to with excitement to do again, but I still think it was a valuable
alternative worth trying out.
I like your last paragraph a lot. It's cool you still respect this way of communication and found it somewhat useful in organizing thoughts.
